'When we import our wetbacks'

that would go over well on today's TV, lol.

Fred Sanford used that expression and worse during Sanford and Son's five year run. He insulted whites, blacks, Jews, Mexicans, Chinese, etc. And we all laughed and it's loved by today's generation.

reply

Yeah, but there we knew that Fred Sanford was a senile old fool.

reply

Far from it, Fred was anything but senile or a fool.

I watch a lot of old stuff on Cozi-TV, Antenna-TV, and THIS-TV, and it's equal parts amusing and horrifying for someone my age (Millennial, generally speaking) to hear all the totally un-PC things that used to go over perfectly well back in the '60s and '70s. This weekend I saw three of Dean Martin's Matt Helm movies, and this sort of thing was so bad, especially in regard to women, that all I could think of was that this is what the characters from Mad Men fantasized themselves to be.

"Oh, well," said Zanoni, "to pour pure water in the muddy well does but disturb the mud!"

Being half "wet back" myself I tend to be the most un-pc person you can find. Most people today are offended because they were told by someone that they should be offended. People that banned Speedy Gonzales, Amos & Andy, Charlie Chan, and Poncho & Cisco were also the ones that banned Popeye because he has an "anger issue", they are also the ones that convinced Cartoon Network to edit or not air at all certain Looney Tunes and other cartoons. Did you ever notice that those types of series, such as the Beverly Hillbillies the Clampetts' logic usually made more sense than the beautiful people of Beverly Hills?

Sure, go ahead and show all the deviant behavior you want, saturate the airwaves with every social taboo you got, and bash the Catholics and rules and religion in general but DAMMIT, don't you dare show Shirley Temple dancing with Bo Jangles Robinson! Sheesh....

The Great & Powerful "OZ" has spoken!

reply

Totally agree. It's hard to believe people bought into this PC garbage so willingly and without question. It's a mass hysteria.

I still remember the first season of "The Real World" in which the "Asian" on the show was so surprised that it was not PC to use "oriental". She had no clue she was supposed to be offended until someone told her. Exactly what you said above and a concrete example of someone being told what they should or shouldn't think.

I agree with pucks. Then there's Disney's self-imposed ban of Song of the South, which, for many decades, was the only Disney movie with a level-headed African American lead character.

Political Correctness is about controlling peoples thoughts, like a Martinet controlling the strings of a puppet. The world is insane with all of this thought control, and multi culturalism, in which everyone walks on egg shells because they are scared to death of offending someone for fear of being labeled a racist.

reply

They had to re-name the "Oriental Cole Slaw" ASIAN Cole Slaw" at my local grocery store undoubtedly because some PC freak made a stink. Why is everybody so sensitive?

reply

Most likely, ONE PC freak made a stink.

And, it was probably a self-important, white, single mom with too much time on her hands.
