Three strikes...

Three things that really annoyed me about Gidget.
1. The laugh track in the pilot episode. Never before was it so obviously added at the last minute. What's really annoying is that a show like Gidget, which is more reliant on wit instead of gut-laughs, really shouldn't have had a laugh track at all.
2. The title sequence is almost embarassingly lame.
3. Gidget suddenly has two different bedrooms. (and this isn't even a pilot/rest of series change either)

Of course, add the great writing, decent acting and pathecolor, and you have something legendary. I still can't believe how much they were able to get away with in 1965 (the first episode was all about sex, after all, and Gidget makes some comments at the end about her brother-in-law being sexually frustrated)

I just finished watching all the episodes and somehow missed the two different episodes. Which ones were different?

Thanks.

You caught that too about the sexual references! I was really shocked that they allowed her (of all people on television) to be so frank and matter-of-fact about the subject! But I love that they showed it in a realistic way and showed teens knew about the subject- (and she was comfortable enough to say this in front of her Dad!) and saying the word or the mere mention of the subject didn't have to be automatically equated with having "loose morals."

Another episode had Gidget uttering the word "Damn"- though maybe it was allowed as she was doing a quote from Shakespeare's Macbeth: "though 'twas she who hatched the fearful plot, she later pleaded out damn spot!" Ok, my quote may be a bit shaky, but who else used the word "damn" on television in the 60's?

I don't think any other show, even the grown-up ones got away with this much back then!

Well the subject was surely to come up. They had her surrounded by every hot guy on the campus who all wanted her. And a lot of them shed their shirts at the beach at one point or another. Gidget had the best high school career I ever saw in a teenager when it came to former, present and future guys who were after her.
Heck, the foxiest chicks at my high school never saw the action Gidget did. And being the typical Southern California high school, they were pretty darned foxy. :)

It's true, Gidget saw a lot of action on the beach. Every week she has a new guy to date.

I wish there had been more episodes of the show. It's one of my all time favorites. I would have liked Gidget to turn totally MOD and wear even wilder outfits and hairdos than the previous season.

There wasn't much in the way of toy merchandise at the time and that would have been imminent if the show had continued.
