I was curious if anyone knew or read anywhere about why they went the way they did with the direction of Gidget's boyfriend Jeff Moondoggie. He was in the pilot and one other episode and never heard from again. I know they wanted to focus on Gidget and her school stuff, her friends, her relationship with her dad and probably having her date other guys but I still think he could have been her main guy she liked and been reoccuring. He was her boyfriend in the movies and ended up marrying her in one so it seemed kind of odd that he was even mentioned in the first place in the series yet they send him off to college within the first or 2nd episode. What are others thoughts and opinions on that and has anyone read what the writers thoughts on this was?

If Gidget and Jeff had not agreed to see other people, there would have been a pretty limited storyline considering that many episodes revolved around Gidget's dates. I figured they didn't mention Jeff much since he was clear across the country going to Princeton. If the show had gone more than one season, I'm sure we'd have seen more of Jeff.

I think that is why they had low ratings . Fans of the Gidget movies expected Jeff to be a part of the show and were disappointed and gave up on the show .
