Some of the best episodes of " Get Smart"

What were some of the best episodes from this series?

I'm conducting research commemorating on the show's golden anniversary.......

I'll start the ball rolling with the pilot episode(the only episode in black and white)

And were there others that made this show so great?

reply

My Nephew the Spy
Charles Lane as Max's Uncle Abner actually steals the show. I crack up everytime I watch it.
BTW, can we have more than one?

Art makes the disturbed comfortable and the comfortable disturbed.

The episode with 2 99s, 1 being a CHAOS plant.

Jesus NEVER existed! He is Judeo Christian MYTH!

Ship of Spies had more memorable bits than any other episodes.

Either of the two episodes with Harry Hoo

I also loved the episode which parodied The Fugitive, with Smart on the run.

Many others can easily be nominated.

reply

The Harry Hoo episodes--"Amazing." It's the same with about any Sigfried appearance ("The plan is stupid...the plan is dumb...the plan worked.")

I like many of the early episodes, especially the intro of the (not "Craw" but) "Claw."

The Casablanca episode was memorable. My fave title is "The Mess of Adrian Listenger."

Loved the two part episode with James Cahn. Max was playing a prince's double for the 2nd time. The initial episode was pretty good too. But the one I'm talking about was after he was married and 99 kept getting confused. Was she kissing Max or the King of Coronia?

reply

Another memorable episode(s) was the two-parter with Don Rickles who played Max's longtime friend unaware of his spy job. Rickles' confused reaction to the booby traps in Max's apartment was priceless. Also featured was a great villain, the Maestro, played by the inimitable Robert Easton who was also the dialect coach to the stars.

The 3-part A Man Called Smart. Part 1, especially, is comic gold. The whole routine putting Max on the stretcher and through the revolving doors is hilarious. Physical comedy at its finest.

reply

A Man Called Smart was originally a major motion picture, but after the producers watched The Munsters movie tank on the big screen they decided to turn it into a three-part episode.

reply

That arc was on MeTV recently. The scene with the revolving door was hilarious, as was the scene with him rolling down the street and into the open manhole was priceless!

From part 2 of that arc, the scene with the KAOS agent kidnapping Maxwell and stuffing him (and several other agents) into the small car was also hilarious...once they cut to the car, with henchmen in the backseat, with feet out the window, I cracked up.

Oh stewardess...I speak jive.

Two I really like:

Spy Spy Birdie Smart and his KAOS nemesis Siegfried have to team up with each other to stop A.J. Pfister from destroying the world with nitro-whisperin via his kamikaze pigeons.

The Girls From KAOS Max teams up with Miss United States in this funny Cold War-era spoof of the Sino-Soviet split. The best episode without 99.

I liked the Tequila Mockingbird episode, which was a take-off on the Maltese Falcon. The morse code castanets were a hoot.

The Max and 99 wedding episode was a milestone with Max drinking a potion that made a map break out on his chest and he wasn't allowed to sit down.

The King Kong episode was a hoot too, where this agent [who I think was actually a monkey] takes 99 up to the top of the building and he slips on a banana peel. And Max says it was beauty that killed the beast. And 99 thinks he means her, but he says that was the name of the banana.

Of course my favorite line of the whole series may be when Max and 99 end up stranded on a deserted island where Sigfried is planning his latest nefarious deed with this giant magnet.

Sigfried: I'm not attracting, I'm repelling.
99: You certainly are.

Possibly my favorite is "One of Our Olives is Missing" - guest star Carol Burnett as the 'girl in danger' is a perfect, funny fit...and there's Siegfried!

reply

Both Harry Woo episodes
Both episodes with The Craw
Any Ziegfried episode
Also love the 2 part Don Rickles episode.

My only complaint with the whole show is that you see a lot of the same stuff over and over again. But once you are away from the series for awhile, you can go back and enjoy it again.

The one about Kaos poisoning the Idaho potato crop and Max and Seigfried play snoopy and the red baraon.
