Actress to play Valerie Grant

Vanessa A. Williams (not to be confused with the singer and former Miss America), will be the one to play Valerie Grant. It's been posted on Instagram. Some of you may remember her from the first season of Melrose Place and most recently on The Flash.

She seems to young for Abe? I read she was going to be a lady Abe dates?

I'm glad they got an experienced actress in the role. Still a little disappointed that Tina Andrews wasn't chosen to reprise her role, mainly for nostalgia reasons. Although the only people that Tina's Valerie might have interacted with that are still on the show are Doug and Julie. So I guess there would be very little in the way of flashbacks to use.

And one minor complaint, Vanessa looks a little too young for the part. I wasn't watching back then but for the long-time viewers, wasn't Valerie in her late teens maybe 20 in the 70s? And the actress who played Valerie in the early 80s looked about mid 20s to possibly late 20s in the YouTube clips I saw. So that would make Valerie at least 60. Vanessa Williams (according to IMDB) is 53 and in the pictures I've seen looks younger. I suppose they could have Vanessa play older than she is, especially if they pair her up with Abe.

Well it wouldn't be the first time they deaged a character. They did the same thing with Mike.Wesley Eure(Mike) is 65 now and Roark Critchlow is 53 now.And ironically Tina Andrews is 65 now and Vanessa Williams is 53.

There is also the example of John Martin, the most recent actor to play Bill Horton back in 2010. John Martin is 20 years younger than Edward Mallory, the best known previous actor to play Bill.

That branch of the Horton family tree must have access to the fountain of youth. There is also Jamie Lyn Bauer(Laura) who is about 10 years younger than her predecessor Susan Flannery. I remember my Mom, who was a fan of Laura (particularly Flannery), not being happy with Bauer in the role. If it wasn't Laura being "too crazy", it was "she's too young to be Laura". :D

You can't compare the actors ages to the their characters ages. So many play either younger or older than what they are.

I only know about Valerie from the 35th anniversary book. I remember her rewarding about getting involved with David banning right? Is there any background on her? I have to say im excited they are bringing these characters back. Gives us viewers a chance who never got the good old days to see these characters.

Yea Valerie also had family on the show.A mother father and brother. Her brother remained on the show a little after Valerie left.
