I think than Don Craig Sr. played by Jed Allan needs to comeback to Days. First, he's a character from the past, He was Marlena's former husband, even if they invalid the mariage because of the infamous Alex North's storyline ! Don Craig Sr. could comeback to Salem, reclaiming Marlena after all these years ! He realizes than he never stop to loving her ! Marlena was troubled and John have to fight to keep "Doc" for himself ! John/Marlena/Don triangle could be a good storyline ! We will learn than Don is in fact had a cancer and before dying he wants to be with the woman he ever loved !

Jed Allen is 81 years old and long retired from acting. Do you actually think he really wants to return to acting after being retired for so long? And do you think younger viewers who aren't familiar with the actor or the character really want to see another octogenarian on the show?

Sorry Kryce, but rwm6 is right. I remember Don Craig very well from the late 1970s-1985 and he was a great character, but bringing him back really wouldn't serve any storyline purpose. Fans seem to want Marlena with John, and Don has been gone for so long there wouldn't be much inherent rooting value for him to be with her.
Now, if he had a grandson who came to Salem, that would be interesting. And that would be a reason for Don to come for a visit, to introduce him to the show and viewers. The show needs another lawyer or doctor.
I know Jed Allan has had medical issues in recent years. Perhaps Marlena could learn of Don Craig's death, and Jed could provide a voiceover for a scene where Marlena is reading a letter Don wrote.
No. It's bad enough what they'd done to inject "drama" into and John and Marlena's relationship as it is; I don't want to see them dredging up her husband from the Carter administration, just to manufacture more unnecessary conflict.
could comeback to Salem, reclaiming Marlena after all these years
And therein lies the major problem I'd have with that scenario, because it's probably exactly what would happen; and smacks too much of the aforementioned Alex North contrivance, which was basically an amalgamation of Marlena's relationship with Don Craig and Roman; setting him up as her (secret) first husband, with a son that was "lost", while using the archival footage of the actor from when he played Roman. Marlena isn't a possession to make claim, and those types of stories with any of the women on the show are tired and frankly outdated. On top of that, it's be roughly 40 years; which for Marlena is 6 presidents, 3(ish) children, two spouses and countless weddings ago. She's moved on.
Now if you were tell me he might show up just to walk down memory lane and catch up with Marlena, with genuinely no ulterior motive; sure, that could be fun. John doesn't have to be threatened, the three of them could go out for dinner, Don and Marlena could share a dance, maybe they even run into Roman, who Don of course knew, and they could reminisce about their mutual "one who got away," Don invariably asks if Marlena had ever thought what might have been, but ultimately they're all very happy with how things turned out. Don's backstory would probably be that he and Marlena got divorced after DJ's death took too much of a toll on their marriage, and he might reveal that he had gotten remarried, maybe even ended up having kids of his own, and is probably even a grandfather. His wife could have recently passed, and he happened to be passing through his old stomping grounds and was feeling nostalgic, so he stopped to see Marlena; and then he's on his way. 1-2 episodes, tops.
Now, like another poster said; would it be practical to bring an 80-something actor out of long term retirement? Probably not, but at least for a small nostalgic novelty, it could be a fun change of pace; and maybe even be appealing, depending on the actor's health, but definitely not a major necessity if didn't happen either. Certainly nothing warranting a recast if the original actor wasn't interested.
Seeing this thread reminded me, Don did have a daughter, named, amusingly enough, Donna Craig, and she was played by Tracey Bregman, who went on to play Lauren on the Young and the Restless. She would have had a couple of kids and they would be adults by now. I think it would be great if, the next time they bring in a new character, they consider making him/her a relative of Don's.
