was he a coward? I've never heard an explanation of why McCord was the only survivor at bitter Creek. Unless he was wounded and unconscious, or trapped somehow so that he couldn't fight. He should have fought to the death. Killed as many injun's as possible.

shareOK, You're right. I just saw the episode with flashbacks to what happened at Bitter Creek. General Reed seemed to be going a bit senile and wouldn't order a retreat. McCord didn't want to tarnish Reed's name, plus believed that if the truth would be known, there may be an indian uprising, or such, because of a delicate treaty.

shareI remember one episode where it was stated a soldier sacrificed his life to save him. I imagine that happening a few times. Also he could have fought to the last man standing and it was him.
