Love that scene. But it confuses me. One minute she's all shy and reluctant to meet anyone, the next she's transformed into this sex pot trying to get with her daughter's fiancee?
Was she drunk, was that the idea? Was it part of Carol's plan?

Isn't that a great scene! Joan Crawford does a great job. When he asks for scotch, and she gives him a look and says, "Oh, you're one of those..."
I do get a little confused as to what flips her switch, and she does a 180, but I still love the scene.

It is a very odd and abrupt transformation. I thought maybe her daughter slipped some Spanish fly into Joan's drink! LOL!
shareMy guess is what she did wasn't in the script. Joan decided to flirt with the actor as the cameras rolled so she can show him she still had it in her. And since the budget was so low, William Castle couldn't afford to do a retake and was forced to use that shot in the final cut.

You're right - I bet that scene wasn't even in the script. Joan probably just thought that guy was hot and she wanted a piece of man meat.
But I'm happy for that scene because it's totally hilarious. I love the glint in Joan's eyes and her grin as she approaches the boyfriend.

Well, the daughter does want people to believe that her mother is (still) mentally disturbed, so doing this would actually make sense. However, the film couldn't show us this because it would give away that the daughter was up to something. The way to incorporate it would be to have it be part of the ending explanation.
