Director's Cut?

Okay, so, Dark Sky's new DVD of the film claims to be a 'Director's Cut', but I haven't found anything that says if it's different from the old Image DVD (other than obviously better picture quality).

Without any major spoilers, can anyone tell me if there's a major difference? Or is it the same as the old DVD with new extras?

From what I understand, little tiny bits were added with one extended scene as an extra feature. Just got it yesterday but I cant compare it to the VHS as I dont have it.

i have both copies.

there are a few extra scenes in the film. i dont think they were originally aloud in the regular version. there is a stronger implication that "ralph" had relations with his cousin in the bushes at the climax of the film as opposed to the "diving on her" then cutting away.

also, there is a scene where lon cheney, parks his car and is transporting two of the relatives to the house while there is apparent dynamite blasting ahead....which is were he finds it later to blow up his own house (which was never explained in the original version)

i am a big fan of this film and i want to vomit because it is indicussion of being remade.

It's not in discussion, it's happening!

There's only one extra scene added to the director's cut. It's basically the deleted scene that was included as an extra on the Image DVD incorporated back into the feature, at least up until they come to the house. They cut the scene where they meet the girls and Ralph outside the house since they introduce them all again once they get in the house. So, the entire conversation Bruno has with Schlocker and Anne when they stop for the blasting is added. There's nothing added to the rest of the film.

Plus the film is anamorphic now, which will fill out a widescreen TV.

Boy, Did I Luck out a week ago... At A Flea market in texas I found an old old VHS Tape of Spider baby, with a DVD iN The older DVD Box... Not the Director cut box... The VHS Tape is Horrible To View But still had to have it!! The DVD Has commentary by just" Jack hill and also has Footage from the cast & Crew Reunion at the nuart theatre.. Its a bit Differnt from the newerDirectors Cut DVD... ActuaLLY I lIke the commentary by Jack Hill a lot! Better on this Version, than the Newer Directors cut version. He talks more about Jill Banner and Sid!! The VHS Is a Hoot to watch!

There's a scene that was cut from the original release that is added back in. Also some very minor trims that you wouldn't notice unless you ran the different versions side by side.

I WAnt To Get The "Johnny Legend" Version of Spider Baby.. Does that DVD Have any extra Footage on it? I have the older DVD TOO That has the 30th Anniversary Screening at the Nuart Theatre in LA. Thats worth seeing too

reply

The old Image DVD that you already have is the "Johnny Legend" version. The only other version from that time, besides the VHS, is the Laser Disk, which is identical to the Image DVD.
The new MPI Dark Sky version is completely remastered in HD from the original negative, with the exception of the added scene, which was made from the only existing print that includes it.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
==Jack Hill
