House of a 100 Corpses

Rob Zombie was obviously influenced by this film. They are not similar in plot but they are in characters and visuals.I know Rob is a huge film fan but this has to be among his favs.

House of 1000 Corpses is practically a remake of this!!! I'm surprised Zombie was not sued.

Well, Sid Haig was in both movies. (Ralph and Capt. Spaulding)

There is a song on the first White Zombie album titled Spider Baby (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah), so it seems that he's been a big fan of the film for quite a long time. Not to put words in his mouth, but I'm sure he would admit to Spider Baby being a big influence on his work in House of 1000 Corpses.

Yeah, House of 1000 Corpses definitely felt like a remake of this.

The glaring difference is that House of 1000 Corpses is relentlessly mean-spirited. Virginia reacts to murdering people like a kid who accidentally fries a bug with a magnifying glass -- it's like "Ooops, I guess he's dead." Baby, on the other hand, absolutely revels in torturing and dismembering people. The Merryes are childlike and their victims are lovably buffoonish; the Fireflys are dementedly nasty and their victims are loathsomely annoying.

And I think that's kinda what makes "Spider Baby" unique. It's got lovable characters, it's alarmingly brutal without being graphic, and it's wildly salacious without being lewd.

Yeah, Rob Zombie pretty much mixed this with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre and put his own spin on it. But I love House of 1000 Corpses

oh absolutely! i thought that too right away when i saw that it was this demented secluded family, and with Sid Haig?? but when i really felt the connection to "House" was when Emily was trying to make her getaway running in panick through the feilds and trees in the skimpy lingerie with the girls following behind, knives in hand, calling for her in twisted melodic voices "Emilyyy, where are youuu?"
I'd always thought Texas Chainsaw was Zombie's inspiration for his movie but i know now this clearly was also a strong influence.
Ive seen my fair share of horror movies from this era and this one definately stands out. given the year of its release its not as campy as so many were (and dont get me wrong, im a fan of the camp) but Spider Baby actually kept me on the edge of my seat, brilliantly terrifying!

Rob Zombie actually went out of his way to mention this as one of his favorite films in an interview.

Although the only scene that really reminded me of SB in House was when the people in Tiny's room jump on the girl.

I noticed even "The End" with a question mark after it was the same.
