Been Much Better Without Aliens

Perhaps some kind of threatening life on Mars(and not dinosaurs) or an aseroid strike. Guess they had to get the kiddies before they could get the parents. It was obvious the aliens had better technology than humans. Why not mine Earth as well?

Why didn't Paul Mantee have a bigger career? Showed great potential in RCOM. Scenery was breathtaking. Eerie, haunting music and very good special effects(except for the animation). Excellent movie until common sense flew out the window.
7 out of 10. Shoulda, coulda.....

Well, if you're going to insist on complete realism the movie would not have been made since we know that Mars is quite inhospitable for any kind of unsuited exposure. the key to enjoying this movie is to just accept that it was made using the current scientific knowledge that was available at the time. It's a good movie, if one just gives it a chance.

lolwut? You actually think that the scientific community though in the sixties that mars had atmosphere, exposed ice, giant fires everywhere and sausages growing? Even when this film was made it is nowhere close to the current scientific knowledge that was available at the time.

The amount of laughable stuff in this movie is monumental, and in 1964 comics were already more accurate. The only thing that kept me watching this mess was wondering what would be next absurdity.

Good post! Very good movie. If he had not found Friday, Draper would have become insane and that would be too depressing!

"Why didn´t Paul Mantee have a bigger career?"

Because he, at least based on this movie, didn´t have a tiniest shred of any acting talent? What he gives here, is one the most awful lead performances in any film I´ve seen.

And the aliens are just about the least of this movie´s problems.

I disagree. The alien ships were the best part. I loved the way that they would assume a stationary position, then dart forward within the blinking of an eye. They had a very mysterious quality about them as well. Of all of the threats this film offered, I think they were the only one that I found genuinely entertaining.
