The Ending (*Spoilers*)

The running of the two women heading for the hole was just amazing. I couldn´t speak for half an hour and was overwhelmed. Can anyone think of a comparable powerful ending of a film?

To the OP:
yup man, i was left astounded and overwhelmed by the amount of profundity this movie had. Still, i look up images of Onibaba on the Internet as i dont have the CD to watch the movie these days. Will definitely watch again. Believe me, after seeing all these feudal samurai movie, i want to go back to that period, just like i wanted to go back to WWII period. So amazing man.

Nobody's mentioned Mephisto. Right about Onibaba, though. It's pretty heavy stuff, even though we knew all along that this was NOT going to have a happy ending.

Dead Man, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Aliens, The Devil's Rejects, Terminator 2, Firemen's Ball have some of my favourite endings.

Rashomon did have a very powerful ending. Call me crazy but the best ending to a film for me will always be the first Saw.

The ending of Onibaba (1964) put me in mind of the ending of Gone to Earth (1950).

"I beseech ye in the bowels of Christ, think that ye may be mistaken."

The Vanishing (1988) has a very unsettling ending
