Funny story ( to me anyway )

I remember my family was visiting my grandparents in Maryland, and as a
14 or 15 year old kid I loved science fiction movies. When I saw in the TV
Guide ( what's that??? LOL ) that there was a movie called "Night Of The
Iguana" I was sure this was going to be some kooky monster movie starring
a giant iguana.

We all sat down to watch the movie, and my Grandpa, who would pass away
later that year slowly got up and turned up the volume so loud the room shook,
and then slowly walked back to his easy chair when my Grandma called into
the room for him to turn down the TV volume.

So the movie started, we all sat there ready to watch the monster movie I
promised everyone ... and we got "The Night Of the Iguana".

The movie blew me away and has been one of my favorites ever since,
not to mention Ava Garder as one of my favorite actresses.

It would be so cool to own a little motel in a resort town like that and see
the people coming and going. I always wanted to go visit where the filmed
this movie as well. Someday maybe.

Everyone watched it oddly enough. I was looking for a monster movie and found a while different world.

Ha, this was my original comment about this on IMDB.

I love this movie. It is so funny, my family was staying at my grandparents house, and I wanted to watch TV since I was kind of bored. So I, a teenage boy at the time, looked for something interesting, and Night of the Iguana sounded like Science Fiction movie about giant iguanas.

I was initially confused and disappointed to see Richard Burton's chubby Welsh face in church garb, but as I watch it I got more and more interested until this became one of my favorite movies. I must have seen it now 20 times including seeing a local theatrical production of it. I don't know what it is about this movie that resonates with me so much.

In the middle of the movie my hard of hearing grampa got up to turn up the volume, and cranked it so far up the room was shaking, to which my grandma Gretchen said "for heaven's sake Arnold, turn it down". Both gone now, but I will remember that family get together forever.

Maybe it is a guy who can find no real place in the world and yet can still connect with others.

I just love both Deborah Kerr and Ava Garder!

Were you embarrassed watching it with your grandparents? My grandfather thought I Love Lucy was racy. Imagine what he’d think of Maxine with the maraca boys.
