What happened after Kelly tells Grant about her former life

I was watching it on TCM, but I missed the middle part of the film -- the part after Kelly tells Grant that she was a prostitute. I managed to watch the ending, but because I missed the middle, I didn't quite understand what was going on. Thanks!
