The most jarring editing I've ever seen

Even the cuts that take place within the same scenes were downright disorienting at times. Anyone else feel this way?

reply

I did. Quite disturbing at times, but not enough to make me dislike the movie.

I'd say ditto on the editing. It's hard to take a film seriously when something that basic is done in such an amateurish (?) way.

Sam Fuller was a slam-bang director who slapped viewers in the face with images and dialogue that other directors wouldn't even dare.

The editing was jarring, but fit in with a story that disoriented its audience from the get-go as to what would happen next, and how it would happen. Sadly, there hasn't been a director since who took such risks and still had them pay off big time.

Also, the studio is responsible for much of the editing and changing of the film. Mr. Fuller was said to have been displeased enough to want to remove his name, but it didn't happen. Considering the themes and the year, that makes sense since it was pretty daring.
