What in the World??? ***SPOILERS***

OK. I obviously missed something that everyone else got and it's driving me nuts. In the opening scene, immediately after Kelly beats the pimp, there is a close-up of a small calendar/day planer on a small table right next to where the pimp lies on the floor. The director appears to want to empasize this date for some reason because of the way the close-up is shot. I THOUGHT it said July 4, 1964. Then, we see Kelly arrive in the new town and the date is shown on a banner above the street. That date is sometime in 1963 (August?). At the end of the film, the date is shown on the banner again as January 5, 1964. I must have read the first date wrong because it makes no sense in context with the rest of the film. Can somebody explain this to me??

They wanted to show that her hair had grown back since time had passed.

You're right, the dates don't make sense.

She beats up her pimp on July 4, 1964. Then, she arrives in the new town in August (I think) 1963, as if her time in the town happened before she beat up the pimp. But, then, we find out that her hair was shaved off before she came to the town and it's only just grown out again.

So, the dates don't make sense and I don't know what Fuller was trying to do.

Plus, it would take someone about 5 years to grow their hair from nothing to shoulder length! I believe it only grows about an inch a year...

If hair only grew 1 inch per year, barbers and hairdressers would go out of business pretty quickly. :-)

Google is your friend: Hair grows about 0.5 inches per month, six inches in a year.
