Marnie was Written for Grace Kelly

It's been well-documented it was to be her comeback. But she backed out. :( The Monegasque didn't want her acting again, and they controlled her life, so..
so much for fairy tale. :(

Grace would've been highly suitable for North by Northwest---and really nothing else that followed that was done by Hitchcock . . . and especially so with Marnie . . . her "comeback" would've fizzled into nothingness . . . as far as her acting career would go after marrying Rainier--well, MGM did expect her back to do Designing Woman, however, as everyone knows, that didn't happen, and she never did return to MGM . . .

I'm glad she didn't do it. It was a terrible story, even for those days. The character of marnie was so unpleasant, I felt no sympathy for her at all. Connery's character was an unbelieveable fool. The film is a mess.

I find Hedren to be a warmer actress, and more charsmatic

Sorry, but you didn't watch many Hitchcocks, did you?
Firstly, many men go for the femme fatal.
Second, the story as such was not realistic, but spot on for Hitchcock.
Third, the movie is not necessarily supposed to turn you into a fan of Marnie. It rather shows a desperate and sick woman.

To the opposite: had Grace done it, it could have become of of Hitchcock's greatest.

If the script has been changed . . . otherwise, I think it would've ruined any so-called "comeback" attempts . . . we'll never know of course . . .
