Boy, Hitchcock really hated mothers.
Psycho, The Birds, this one...it makes you wonder.
Anyone ever hear what his mother complex was all about?

I read somewhere that Hitchcock had an invalid mother, but I don't know the history. I'm going to have to look it up.
shareYes, let's find some hidden meaning ,and use that newbie word "hate".
shareIf others want to read up on Hitchcock and how his formulative years may have influenced him later then why do you care? Really? Does somebody wanting to do some research really bother you and your non-life that much?
Just face it: You have your own ideas and beliefs on just about everything, and if you even suspect that another person's ideas don't coincide with yours, then the hairs on the back of your neck immediately stand up and you feel yourself relishing a certain familiar defensiveness. Don't you get tired of fighting the world, i.e., YOURSELF?
Besides that, you really don't think a person's early years make any sort of impact on their later life? If so, how do you account for yourself? Good God. I shudder to think of you as an example of a self-made man.
Hey, thanks for stepping in there, but honestly, it's been a really long time since anyone called me a newbie. At my age, it sounds almost like a complement.
The fact is, I'm not much of a Hitchcock fan, but I'm giving these films another shot. I am interested in what makes him so popular with so many people, and I'm willing to listen. I've picked up a lot of interesting info on these boards.
Actually, after watching a few more films, it seems to me that Hitchcock had a pretty stilted view of women in general, but in particular had no use for mothers.

Interesting thoughts, I think Hitchcock was just analyzing human behavior, and the fact that we all have a mother (and father), and some people turn out good and some turn out bad, and the reasons for that are many, sometimes it is not even easy to explain why. Might have more...

Hitchcock was a Freudian. He used a lot of that psychology in his films.
