Ronald Reagan needed a driver who could outrun a 25 mph truck with a 10-15 second head start on a dirt road. While it's hard to believe the average person could not perform this task, the whole plan seemed overly complicated.
It only takes one person to divert the truck. The rest of the gang should have been able to rob it down the road, no fancy driving needed. At worse they could hire one more thug to hold a gun.
Ridiculous. Reagan tried to do it and he couldn't. Plus the driver became a bigger part of the plan than even he realized.

- the first time they try it the handling of the car looks terrible. Swaying all over the place.
- the second time it looks like they filmed it in slow mo and then played it back regular speed to make it look faster.
So, Jack wasn't a good enough driver to catch the truck when they did their practice run. I would have let Sheila or the other guy give it a try before I hired some outsider for $100K.
