Loved This Since I was a kid - no remake, please!

Some movies should NOT be remade.

This is one of them!

reply

VERY, VERY FEW movies should be remade.

Oh you can count on it. Hollywood (and Broadway, for that matter) is so dried up that it will get around to a remake. Probably with Robin Williams or some other annoying loser in the title role.

reply

Yes, that is certainly a horrible thing, for Hollywood to steal from the ideas of others, to remake movies.

Then the net picks up on the remake and forgets all about the tried and the true Classic, which is also a major shame.

And then those creative individuals with original thoughts are punished, while the hacks go on to rake in the payments.

So, everything about remakes is completely unfair and ought to be as illegal as plagiarism.

...
so what if it gets remade?
just have sense enough not to watch it
and let others who want to, do so.

people really need to stop acting so childish
about remakes.

Actually, Warner Brothers was looking at a remake a few years ago with Jim Carrey reprising the Don Knotts role. Things fell through and it didn't happen. I'm sure it will resurface eventually.

Having been born in 1981,I've never had an opportunity to see this film on the big screen, and I'd love to see a trend of re-releasing movies, instead of remaking them.I don't mean with new cgi effects ala'the star wars OT either.Just nicely restored and cleaned up prints, with sound remixed as well.Occasionally,a film will make it back to theaters for very limited engagements but these are usually major films like The Godfather and things like that. They'll be on maybe one or two screens per region for a week or so,for 20th anniversaries and similar events, probably in order to bolster dvd sales.

I wonder how "Limpet" would do. It's a famous movie, but most people of my generation or younger have probably never heard of it.I'm afraid the answer is probably pretty grim. Why do you suppose an older film,if re-released, won't draw
a younger crowd even though it would most likely be fairly financially successful as a cgi-suped-up,over-the top-actor-packed remake of the same exact film?!

reply

Only if it is remade is it possible for you to see it again more regularly on TV. I've been waiting for years for it to come on. I am excited to think that it would be back in rotation.

@uncletupelo1: and 5 years later, it's on right now, on TMC. Love it!

Bad news: There's a remake scheduled for release in 2011.

reply

Even worse news, It will be starring Johnny Depp.

Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that.

I'm sure it will come complete with fart jokes and other crap too found in todays movies.

reply

I agree about the remake but you sort of have to respect that Don Knotts supported it, but I agree and hate remakes. I bet it wont feature the WWII angle but some newjack crap.
