Charlotte Julie Marsten's Great-Great-Great-Gra nddaughter?

I love both of Bette Davis' Louisiana-set movies, HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE and JEZEBEL and I think it gives CHARLOTTE a little extra kick to think of Charlotte being the great-great-great-granddaughter of Julie Marsten from the earlier picture. Given the personality, the region, and the "resemblence" it's not a stretch! And do you think maybe missy Miriam could have been some black sheep from the Hamiltons of Georgia even with her yankee mama?

Well that painting of Julie Marston hanging in the Hollis House certainly made me think so. Tee-hee.

But not great-great-great granddaughter, just granddaughter. Julie Marston would have been born around 1830, and Charlotte Hollis around 1900, so it fits.

Why would Charlotte be older than Bette Davis herself? It's set in modern times, so I'd put Charlotte's year of birth at 1908. I guess Julie could have been just Charlotte's grandmother but grandparents are rarely 70 when their grandchildren are born, especially in the South where it is not uncommon for there to be only 20 years (or less) between the parent and child's age. So if Julie was born in 1830 her children were like born 1855-1865 and they would start having children 1875-1890 and Charlotte's parents would have probably been born in these years so I'd guess Charlotte would most likely be a great-grandchild but could have been a great-great-great grandchild if each generation had their children very young. I never paid that much attention to the painting, I'll have to check it out the next time I screen the DVD.

fun thought, I amused myself by thinking of them as scarlet and melanie after the former got washed up, and the latter got sick of her tolerating her *beep* and stopped being sweet all the time. But practically, no. Julie and Pres go of to the fever island at the end which I assume means she died without offspring. Even had she made it out alive, I'm pretty sure she was designated for spinsterdome like charlotte, for she never would have settled for anyone but Pres.

Could be, even though her mama was a sorry, up-north waitress!

I can just hear Velma paraphrasing Aunt Pittypat, "Yankees in Louisiana??? How did they ever get in??"

Yes! Was having similar thoughts.
