Watching It For the Umptieth Time...

I long ago lost count of how many times I've seen CHARLOTTE, but it never disappoints. Davis, de Havilland, Cotten, Moorehead, Astor, Kellaway - what a cast of "golden-age" Hollywood!!!

Yes, the plot has a hole or two in it, but the sum is much better than its parts.

"In my case, self-absorption is completely justified."

I've also lost count. Saw it when I was 6 when it first came out. I've probably seen it close to a hundred times. I not only know every line before it's spoken; I know every music cue before it's played. Now THAT'S scary!

This is one movie i can watch over and over again. All the women in it are fabulous,Bette,Olivia,Agnes and Mary,Cecil Kellaway is good too.

reply

And Victor Buono is sensational in his one big scene at the beginning.

reply

Yes Victor Buono is great in his one big scene, the only one i am slightly disappointed in is Joseph Cotten, there are times where he seems like he is playing the role drunk.

reply

Yes and Cotten really lays on the southern bit a little too thick at times!

I think Mary Astor's accent is authentic.

I thought he WAS drunk---that is, he was playing the character drunk---and it was the right choice, too.

Went to see this at theatre with my mom and sisters...I was 8 years old and my mom was worried about the scene where John is killed, so she held her hand in front of my eyes!
