What happened to Bruno?

at the begginning of the movie, hes shown hanged from a tree. did he commit suicide?

Yes he commit suicide because he didn't want to face the consequences of Sascha having a baby.

I'm not so sure of that. I think he was murdered by the villagers who then made it look like suicide so he could be blamed for the girl's death. Nothing we learn about Bruno later makes it likely that he was the type to hang himself over a pregnancy.

His forehead was bloody and covered with scuff marks that probably came from the villagers, as it is doubtful they came from the hanging.

I thought her father killed him.. Sasha told him he would.

I thought so too, his forehead was scratched and bloody.
he was killed and made to look like a suicide.
I say the girls father killed him.

It's possible when the girl was turned to stone, Bruno witnessed this, and Namaroff or Ratoff, who had been following Carla, killed him.
