Missing Scenes
Can anyone tell me whether the region 2 dvd includes the scene where the young girl, as a child, sees the monster, hence her being left deaf and dumb by the experience?

shareYou know, I recall that, too!
I don't believe it's on the DVD, though.

This was a scene that was added to American TV prints to extend the running time from 84 to about 96 minutes. There were other minor scenes added also. Other Hammer films changed for TV include the 1962 Phantom of the Opera and Kiss of the Vampire, which was re-titled Kiss of Evil for TV.
shareThanks for your comments, guys. I too had heard that it was an added scene, but strangely enough, for me, that scene made sense insofar as the mute girl and her relationship with the creature was concerned. So presumably it's not on the dvd?

It's bizarre reading about these "missing scenes"-- like the newspaper reporter who thinks there "must be a story" in this Frankenstein character (like something out of THE NIGHT STALKER, heh). The thing is, I only have the TV version, so while I've seen some things people who have the DVD haven't, I'm wondering what's missing from MY version!
You'd think they could fit BOTH versions on one DVD-- wouldn't you?
I'm surprised nobody's edited together a version with all the scenes from both versions yet... (heh)
The American scenes for KISS OF EVIL were shot in Hollywood with characters who had no interaction with the British cast, and the climax drastically cut down the bat attack. The earlier sequence showing Clifford Evans burning his wrist to remove the vampire's kiss was missing entirely. THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN was already weak before they added scenes depicting the beggar girl as a child, the character easily disposable like nearly every other character in Hammer's worst Frankenstein feature (even THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN was better).

I've just found the missing scenes on youtube. Sorry, I can't provide a link.
It's exactly as I remembered!
