Since hearing the beautiful theme music a few days ago, I've been reading all the info I can find online about this movie. I'm interested in seeing it but don't want to go so far as to purchase it...which seems to be the only option right now. Would somebody out there be so good as to tell me what happens in the love triangle? The lyrics in the song hint that things don't end well for someone and I wonder who it is. Even if I know the answer to the question, I'd still be interested in seeing the movie, so you won't really "spoil" it for me.

This isn't a movie about a love triangle. From 1964 it is a remarkable prediction of the outcome of the US involvement in Vietnam. This is, in my opinion, an excellent movie. But it is grim. Think innocent persons hanged.

Then again, it's not a particularly prescient vision of Vietnam. The communist rebellion never attained much success in Malaysia, and of course, the British really did leave, granting the country independence roughly three or four years after the fictional events depicted in this movie.

Finally got to see/tape it on TCM a couple days ago.
