Really going to miss this board

The MFU board is one of the most informative boards on IMDB. Hopefully we will all find a new board where we can discuss one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

WE GOT MOVIE SIIIIIGN!

Sometimes I felt like I was the only one coming here regularly.

But there are a couple Face Book groups devoted to "MFU", if you're interested. Nice people; interesting submissions.

reply

I kept meaning to devote more time to these forums, but something always seemed to intrude.

reply

That's okay. You did a good job over at the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie board defending the series for us purists, Maggie.

reply

We fought the good fight. 

Honestly, though, I didn't think the movie was bad; I just didn't see the point of calling it U.N.C.L.E. when it had so little to do with it.

And I can just hear peggiegeorgie and savinggrace chiming in about how unrealistic it was for any of us to have expected a remake of the series, and how superior Armie Hammer was as Illya to McCallum ("who didn't sound at all Russian!"), and that not featuring U.N.C.L.E. HQ was perfectly okay because "IT WAS AN ORIGIN STORY!". Man, they sure didn't like us fans comparing the two.

The most irritating aspect of the 'M.F.U.' movie for me was Napoleon Solo's backstory, which as any fan of 1960's T.V. will tell you, was lifted wholesale from Robert Wagner's 'It Takes A Thief' series. I mentioned this fact on Facebook, and some genius replied: "At least there was a backstory for Solo in the movie. There wasn't one in the series.". Perhaps it was because one wasn't needed?

reply

I may be in the minority, but I'm not really a fan of "origin stories." A few hints of backstory here and there are fine, but sometimes too much detail takes away the mystery. Illya being enigmatic was one of his greatest appeals.

reply

Yeah, I don't feel we needed to know Solo and Illya's life stories. The charisma of the two actors playing them was enough to make them both come to life for me.

reply

So, did anyone from the IMDB discussion ever find there way here?

reply

Apparently not..they were too stupid...probably went to IMDB2 and gave up after that...lol

reply

I'd never heard of it. Just looked at it, and there is essentially no activity. Last post a month ago? (Unanswered). Most posts 3 to 4 years old?

The moviedb.org seems marginally more active than his board, but FAR more trolls and idiots posting there, and least in some of the discussions I've looked at.
