Gomer Pyle Movie
This needs to get to the correct people, a movie based on Gomer Pyle should be made, how do you think Gomer and Carter would do in Afghanistan?
share It would never work with those two in a battle field situation. Even if CBS had not dictated that Vietnam never be mentioned it had to be obvious to Sheldon Leonard and Aaron Ruben that Pyle could only serve in the peacetime service. With all due respect to those that were in the service during the 1970's and 1980's the reputation that the Army, Navy, and Marines (yeah, I intentionally left out the Air Force) had for the enlisted personnel was that those branches would take anybody and Gomer was the ultimate definition of anybody.
I would not mind seeing a Gomer update but I have the feeling that when Forrest Gump was done in 1994 that they were channeling Gomer into Gump where the movie was concerned. Gump will most likely stand as the last word on GP. I would hope that GP would never be done on the big screen as a send up.
