Considering some of the atrocious things people choose to name their children these days, it wasn't too bad.

In my family 'a Gomer' was an idiot (just stupid, not legitimately mentally handicapped) - courtesy of this character.

we actually have an older man in town (probably in his 80s) named gomer.yes he is from the south.
