Which episode was that when Sgt Carter yells at Pyle and say's "your grandmother wears army boots", and Pyle replies with "well bless her heart".

I think it was the ep on "The Andy Griffith Show" where Gomer joined the Marines

I think you may be thinking of one gag on GOMER PYLE that I've always remembered but remember little else of the show. Sgt. Carter was on Gomer's case about doing so poorly in maneuvers and in particularly he was climbing over a wall particularly slow or unusuccessfully (may not have been a wall, but some sort of activity) and Carter snapped at him "Pyle, my 80-year-old grandmother can climb over that wall faster than you can" to which the ever naive Gomer replies, "She can? Well, bless her heart".

HarlowMGM- you have it right. I remember the episode and Pyle takes what carter said literally. Kind of like in Full Metal Jacket when the drill instructor is always after and ridiculing "Pyle or Leonard. Leonard couldn't climb over the obstacles or climb the ropes. He was just a joke at everything he tried.
