Grandpa and Grandma Pyle

I wonder if Grandpa and Grandma Pyle are separated or divorced. In one episode Gomer's grandpa visits him by himself. He was traveling all over the country in a trailer. And in that particular episode he helps Gomer get the confidence needed to march and drill his platoon mates. And in another episode, Gomer's grandma visits him. She carries around all kind of potios and fortune telling paraphernalia. But the thing was that both grandparents traveled alone. Makes me wonder if they had split up for some reason.

I think that sort of thing happens a lot in TV shows. After a few seasons, the inconsistencies increase.
