How About A Full On Reboot?

Seriously now and I'm not kidding. Does any Gomer Pyle fan believe
that any of the television networks ought to do a full on updated
reboot of this great classic sitcom? Of course the new version
would be set in today's 21st century time period with Gomer and
his fellow Marines wearing the modern uniforms along with handling
M-4 rifles and driving Hummers. And unlike the original show
where the Vietnam war was never mentioned this new version would
mention the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As for casting I suggest
actors Rob Schneider or French Steward as Gomer Pyle with former
Marine drill instructor R. Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sgt. Vince Carter.
And heck Mr. Ermey even holds the honorary rank of gunnery sergeant!
Everyone who's watched Full Metal Jacket is familiar with Gunny
Ermey's very convincing performance so playing Gunny Carter in
an all new version of Gomer Pyle would be a walk in the park for
this actor. Or how about Robert Patrick as Gunny Sgt. Carter?
He's played military roles very convincingly including as
Colonel Tom Ryan in The Unit. Does anyone else have any other
ideas for a Gomer Pyle reboot?

Keep thinking in terms of actors. Ermey I think is too old. Anybody playing Gomer has to have an innocent air about them. I doubt a reboot could be done to my satisfaction or most other fans of the show.

It was already rebooted as "Private Benjamin" starring Goldie Hawn ;)

And earlier before Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. was "No Time For Sergeants" starring Andy Griffith and Don Knotts.

Yes. "Gomer Pyle,U.S.M.C." was a reboot itself!!!

In a way.
