Gomer and the Queen of Burlesque

Really enjoy this episode. Fay Spain is so sincere and real in her
performance as an aging stripper who accepts $50 to pretend she's a
school teacher and go out with Gomer. I really like the way she
is moved by Gomer's gentle interests (the flowers, the mission bell).
A topnotch ep.

Remember when Hacker and his sidekick was watching Gomer when he saw she was a stripper? They were all set to laugh and they realized it was not really so funny. I think Hacker may have learned a lesson here.

I must confess I watched the ep on Youtube, as I'm attempting to see
as much Fay Spain as I can. I thought she was a fascinating creature -
sexy, unusual and a very good actor. She never stops surprising me,
whether it's Playhouse 90, Alfred Hitchcock Presents or one of her films
("Al Capone" with Rod Steiger comes to mind).

That said, I was equally reminded of how sensitive Gomer Pyle is. He's
not dumb or backward, just naïve and very, very sincere. Nabors and
Spain play off each other very well.
