Shouldn't the actors playing marines have regulation haircuts?

in the 1st episode gomer gets his regulation cut. after that it was like HAPPY DAYS, 1950s show with 70s hair styles. same with the waltons ect.

Other than the premiere episode the actors were given hair cuts without knowing it would happen.

For the most part Gomer Pyle was based on the 1940s, as Gomer pay was about $50 a month also one episode Carter volunteers Gomer for an experimental Marine paratroop platoon
