Missed Corporal Boyle in the last season

I know that they had to find a place to put Ronnie Schell when he returned but I always missed Roy Stuart's portrayl of Corporal Boyle in the last season. I guess it was reasonable to assume that either Boyle got promoted to sergeant or perhaps left the Marines but still I thought he and Carter played off each other well and that Carter didn't have the same chemistry with Corporal Slater.

You're not the only one. I think Carter and Boyle (like Carter and Hacker) were funny together, while Carter and Slater didn't make me laugh much. Slater was always the one goofing off and getting Gomer in trouble but in the last season he was...sitting down doing work, obeying orders, helping Sgt. Carter? He didn't seem the type to lead or get promoted.
