I haven't seen this show in many years so I don't remember. Did Gomer ever have an actual job. Was he infantry? or a sanitation engineer? I just seem to remember him being at the base hanging out with the platoon. I have been reading the "Vietnam Thread" and if he were in the infantry he would have gone to Vietnam or even the "Dominican Republic"in 1965.

shareYes he was Infantry. There were episodes when they are "out in the field", on board ship and one episode where they train with a bazooka and another with a mortar. I think it's funny they still carried M-1s instead of M-14s.
"We're paratroopers lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded."
Gomer was a service station attendant at Wally's Garage on "The Andy Griffith Show" and seemed interested in cars. I thought he should have become a mechanic when he joined the Marines.
