Bought Season Two Today...

Cover says some episodes "may be edited and music has been changed." I watched the first eight episodes and did not notice any edits or changes in the music. The picture and sound quality is very good.

One major disappoitment though, there are no special features at all. No audio commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes, photo galleries, nothing! I was hoping for some good extras. They better get some of this while Jim is still in descent health. Maybe on Season 3.

If anyone else bought this, what do you think?

I bought my copy from Deepdiscount.com, where the price was cheapest, free shipping (as always) and no taxes are charged. I haven't receieved my shipment yet but I get my packages from them within a week and a half, and they also have hard to find movies as well

Your post made me feel better as I looked at the back of season 2 yesterday and was a little afraid of how the episodes would be.

Sad there are no special features

Are there any audio intros of Gomer, like on first season set?

No audio introductions either. It's a shame. I saw Jim in concert about 5 years ago and he showed some outtakes during his concert. Very funny stuff of Jim and Frank messing up their lines and laughing about it.

Showed a couple of Frank Sutton and Carol Burnett messing up as well. Remember the episode when the crow was stealing Carters stuff and putting it on Gomers locker? There was a scene where the platoon was in formation and the crow landed on Gomers shoulder, Jim showed some outtakes of the crow using the bathroom on his shoulder! The crow did this several times! Here is what Jim said about this, "I thought we were going to run out of shirts before that crow ran out of sh*t!"

Too bad they didn't include any of this stuff. Hopefully they will next time.

Don't remember that one that well. But I so wanna see the episode again where Gomer chews out Carter, because he was sleep walking or something. Not for sure what season it's in.

I was reading on one of the reviews on amazon.com that some of the singing that Gomer does in the "Gomer Un-trains a Dog" episode has been edited out. I'm going to watch it tonight and see but frankly; it's been so long since I've seen some of these episodes; I might not notice it at all. The only real way to tell; is to time the episodes and if they run under 24 minutes; that particular episode probably has been edited.

I got my set earlier this week and the picture is remastered very very well. It did however, take me a couple of episodes to get used to seeing color after the first season of b&w.

I watched "Gomer Un-trains a Dog" but I don't remember him singing anything in it. One of my favorites so far is "Gomer Pyle, P.O.W."

The "Little Girl Blue" Episode has the song he sings to the girl removed, and the episode "Duke Slater, Night Club Comic" has the music changed in the night club.

I really want to know why. It's strange that they would change that.

Copyrights and licensing. Even today shows get made and there's music featured, but it's licensed for only a particular format (theatrical/cable/broadcast,etc). The home medai market has always been a mess about licensing; usually unless each and every copyright can be tracked down and reissue home video rights, the company will just axe/replace it. That's why the Wonder Years may never be on DVD, because the music was more than incidental.

Yeah, I'll be furious if they don't have Lou Ann Poovey singing all those songs in that *ahem* beautiful voice of hers.

reply

I think most of the music edits and changes were the episodes when Jim Nabors sang.
