I have never met nor known any person by the first name of Gomer
nor anybody with the sir name of Pyle. So do any GP fans out
there claim they know/knew somebody by the name of Gomer?

There was a fellow locally who was of my grandparent's generation (born early 1900's) whose name was Gomer. So all this was before the show and I think he died in the 1970's. I've heard of the surname of Pyle locally but that seems like a long time ago, too.

I do know of one person named Pyle, though: Ernie Pyle. I don't know if Gomer was named after him, but I think that would be fitting.
Also, I always wondered who Camp Henderson was named after. I think an easy guess would be that it was named after Archibald Henderson, the "Grand Old Man of the Marine Corps," who served as the Commandant of the Marine Corps for 37 years. I've seen some sources that say 38 years, but whatever.

I liked Denver Pyle in Andy Griffith and Dukes of Hazzard, but I still would have liked it if Gomer had been named after Ernie Pyle instead.

Gomer is a name in the Bible, which was commonplace back then. Oprah Winfrey's name came out of the Bible, tho it was misspelled from Orpah, I believe.
My favorite Biblical name, which I thought was completely made up, but it appears to have been real, was Abijah Gooch from the Lil Abner comic strip.
Yes I remember Denver Pyle who played Uncle Jessie in The Dukes of Hazzard
and Missy Pyle was also in Dodgeball. Did not know that Gomer is a
biblical name nor about Oprah Winfrey's name either. Don't remember
the name of Abijah Gooch from Lil' Abner as I really did not read
that comic strip very much as a kid.

I used to work with a man named Chris Pyle. Never known a Gomer though, and probably never will! My cousin did name her dog Gomer though, come to think of it!

we have a gomer gomes in mi. he was involved in the U.A.W. he must be near 90. otherwise i have never heard of another gomer
