CARTER NAMES FAKE SHARIF MOVIE

when carter and gomer are in hollywood making a movie carter makes a reference that OMAR SHARIF is in Poland filming the Paderewski story. no such film exist. does anyone know why they would give a fake movie title with a real star?

reply

Just a guess but I think it may have to do with a different motion picture corporation than where GP was filmed (Desilu- Paramount). They wanted to capitalize on the actor's name without plugging a studio by naming an existing movie.

reply

As a joke? Sharif was known for playing characters of different ethnicities.

From "The Monster that ate Minnesota" to "Rochelle, Rochelle," TV shows have historically stayed away from naming real movies whenever the characters are mentioning a movie title. It would have been most unusual for the Sarge to name a real movie in that episode.

reply

yes, the difference was he used the name of a well known famous actor to star in it.almost like a coming attraction.
