When did the 'surpise surprise' catchphrase premiere?

Was that there from the beginning or did it get introduced later on?

I don't remember Gomer saying that on the Andy Griffith Show. (But he did say 'Shazam!')

I may be wrong, but I believe it was first said by Ernest T. Bass (Howard Morris) on "The Andy Griffith Show." I can't remember Gomer ever saying it.

Yes Gomer did say it on Gomer Pyle USMC. Several times if I remember correctly.

I remember the AGS episode where Gomer was suppose to watch for Andy and Helen to arrive, and he was eating a sandwich, so he couldn't signal (with a hoot owl sound); he ended up coming in behind Helen and Andy, after they arrived and said- "Surprise"! I don't know if he said it more than one time. But that might have been the first time he used that phrase?
