That's 7 yrs past the limit age of 26.
sharehe says in an AGS episode they have to enlist if they between the ages of 18 and 34. but that does seem old.

Based on comments made on TAGS and in particular the episode "Man in a Hurry" we are supposed to assume that Gomer is college age (early 20's). People tended to look older back then and I would cite All in the Family as an example. In the first season of AITF Archie and Edith are supposed to be in their very late 40's even though for the time that they looked late 50's or early 60's.
