The thing that makes Addams family better than any other family show is that the characters were always supportive of each other, always. In other shows, families make snarky comments at each other, not in the Addams household. No matter what the idea or ambition, it's always "I'll help you", no matter what the cost or price.

That's a big reason, and then there are other things. Something that's been pointed out is in the beginning of every episode, members of the family are (usually) in the living room and doing something they enjoy, Gomez and Morticia dancing, fencing, her painting and his zen yogi, etc.
And, I think one of their most revolutionary ideas was in the first episode to give Gomez that line, that when the truant officer comes around and asks why the children aren't in school, Gomez says 'why have children just to get rid of them?' No other show of that time or since would carry that attitude towards sending their kids to the public school, I love that line.
A husband & wife who love each other, passionately- Love their kids with genuine tenderness- respect older family members- treat their 'butler' as a member of the family...
This really was a kooky family.
In one show Gomez said that if he ever won the Noble Prize he would not accept it. Someone asked why and he said something like he would have to go all the way to Sweden and he would miss the children. Sweet!

shareI grew up on reruns of both the MUNSTERS and the ADDAMS FAMILY, and I finally pinpointed what made the two shows different----the MUNSTERS were based on known stock horror movie characters, while the Addams Family were more distinctive and original creations in their own right, and that's what made them stand out for being so unique. Morticia was basically a cool modern goth chick,years before it was the in-thing to be one, when you think about it. Cool and weird show,though, always liked it, and I always liked that goofy/fun theme song,too.
