Mother Lurch Visits ...
Many of the episodes are very good, this one is great. A LOT of great lines throughout.
Lurch finally being talked into playing 'master of the domain', then playing it out for all it's worth to the end. Morticia's ridiculous maid costume, simply a taffeta apron and silly headpiece over her usual black outfit. Morticia's initial suggestion, striving for 'realism', that Lurch 'pinch' her, instantly fading to demanding Lurch makes eyes at her, then, seeing the pointlessness of that, asking for a devilish smile from him, again to no avail, AND both Lurch's and her GREAT facial expressions throughout the entire exchange.
Arriving Mother (diminutive Ellen Corby) sweet for few moments, then screeching and squawking the rest of the way through, even standing on the furniture to reach the noose to ring the gong.
One of THE BEST sight-gags in the entire series, when, at the demands of Mother, a 'defeated/resigned' Gomez is in the kitchen nailing Thing's 'favorite' box-top down, and Thing pops up out of the box next to the box to grab the hammer away from him, AND Gomez then struggling to get it back, then apologizing for his actions and advising Thing to 'stay undercover' for awhile (TOTALLY against Thing's nature).
Morticia's comment to Gomez, when he's on one of his kissing binges, that "It's impossible ... that blondes have more fun," a 'shot' at one of the advertising industry's FAMOUS slogans at the time (and a bit of 'naughty' innuendo to boot!).
Lurch actually 'firing' Gomez & Morticia, and Gomez inquiring about the 'customary two weeks notice'!
This crazy show, with it's 'cheap budget' continuous re-use of shots, overdubs, and the same gags and double-takes in nearly every episode, would never make it today ... and the noose? Well, imagine the trouble that would cause in today's PC world! But even with the stale canned laughter, this show was/is FUNNY!
