Will go Criterion for a January release!
Great news! It'll go criterion with a new transfer and a new subtitle translation, as well as other special features not yet announced.

The DVD is due on January 11, 2005 according to Amazon. Hopefully it will not be delayed like the "Battles Without Honor" series has been. I love Suzuki's films and cannot wait for this one - especially with the Critereon treatment. Tokyo Drifter and Branded to Kill (which were both Critereon releases) lacked many extras, so hopefully this one has a few more, but if not, it is still worth it for a new transfer and an overall quality presentation.
shareWith or without extras, a Criterion release means I'll be able to see the film. I live in a place without any art house cinemas and my local library doesn't carry any of Suzuki's films other than the two Criterion DVDs, so I'm quite happy.
Note: The above comments are exclusively my opinion.
