where two friends or cousins or something are in a river logging, and (spoilers)

one gets caught and the tide rises and drowns him? I think Fonda was the father. This horrified me as kid for years. Thanks!

No, that was "Sometimes A Great Notion," starring Fonda and Paul Newman, from 1969/70 or so. And indeed it is very harrowing.
