Vote This Into The Top 250!

I can't believe Le Proces still hasn't made the top 250! This was director Orson Welles' favorite among his own films. It's probably the best Kafka on film. There are few movies out there that can beat this in style and performances. The "before the law" scene is one of my all time favorites.

This wonderful film is, without a doubt, Welles' masterpiece and deserves to be as recognised as Touch of Evil. Only a thousand people have even voted for this thing let's get that number up, people!

I see we still have a ways to go. Let's get those numbers up, people! I'm sure if everyone who liked this movies took the time to regester and vote this a '10', we'd reach our goal. Come on! Our movie needs us.

IT'S NOT OVER YET!

i just voted a zero for the movie.

How could you? You only have the option to vote from 1 to 10. And if you mean you voted this a 1, why would you bother to tell me about it? If you have some explanation, please, go ahead and give it, otherwise piss off.

I agree that this movie is excellent, and it would probably be in my personal list of top ten movies.

But you are wasting your time.

The way the IMDB "weighted average" ratings work, a movie gets points not just for it's average rating, but for the total number of votes it gets.

A true median for this movie would be about 8.1 based on the votes which, by itself, would get it in the top 250 around the 100 mark. But the number of votes is too low.

Anyway to get the movie into the top 250 you would need a lot more votes. I don't know the exact formula they use, but you would need like 5-10,000 more votes. Just getting people who read this board to vote for it won't do it.

Personally I think the way the IMDB ratings work is kind of dumb, but I can see the point of it. Otherwise you would have movies that like three people ever vote on and they all give it a ten and it would be at the top of the ratings, although those three people might be idiots and it might be a stupid movie.

Obviously in most cases or in this case, it isn't that simple, there are quite a few votes for this movie, but that's the kind of thing they were avoiding, anyway.

So the top 250 is dominated by mass-appeal movies, rather than really artistically excellent movies.

I think your vote is fine, Andrew, it matches your IQ

I just watched this movie last night, thanks to Alpha Video (only $5.95). I enjoyed it immensely, but I don't think it quite merits a 10 out of 10. That score is reserved for true masterpieces like Seven Samurai, The Maltese Falcon, Cassablanca, Vertigo, On the Waterfront, and Psycho. I did give it an 8. Would have given it an 8.5, but there is no such ability on this website. There should be though. Like a scale of 1 out of 100 or some such thing.

Tell your friends and enemies. See this movie, it is worth it.

Casablanca, the Maltese Falcon, and On the Waterfront, are tens, sure there great movies, but they just aren't as flawless as the others you mentioned.

reply

I also have voted It Happened One Night, Rashomon, L.A. Confidential, and Yojimbo as tens.

Thanks for the interest, and you are correct, there are flaws, but still Masterpieces.

I just watched it and immediately voted 10, outstanding movie. Much better than "Citizen kane" IMO.

I'm glad to know someone else appreciated this great film as much as I do.

I rated it a four.

It started off well and then I thought it became
tiresome and frustrating.

The best adaptation or least partial adaptation of kafka is 'Brazil'

reply

I think this movie doesn't need those applauses by the masses. It's a masterpiece just by its own virtues as a movie and as one of the most beatiful adaptations of literature. It's a great success. It's the best of Orson Welles. It's really Kafka and truly kafkaesk.
It's art. You can not compare it to the other movies mentioned above (Maltese Falcon, Casablanca etc. except Seven Samurai).
By the way, we need a scoring system other than that of IMDB's stupid formula that counts only the opinion of the masses. Movie is art, so we need some scoring sytem that counts on expert's opinions, a scroring system that measures only the artistic values of movies.

The guy was a genius and famous for saying things like that, but I'm a Welles fan and movies are my obsession. There's no "only" about it for me.

BRAZIL is not purely Kafka, so I wouldn't really count it. Besides, I think this film had its share of influence on that one.
