Funny Line Reading from Perkins...

At his desk, he says to Uncle Max:
"I can't hold... lengthy conversations with family relatives... during working hours!" (around the 46 minute mark)

He says it in a sing-song way looking off into the distance, conscious that a co-worker is hovering five feet away; like he was recently reprimanded and he wants to get the wording right. There's nothing funny about the line, but the delivery is a hoot.

It cracks me up every time.

I think Perkins is pretty funny throughout the movie. Especially in the beginning with all the "ovular" stuff.

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

Perkins is indeed hilarious throughout the entire film. I love the way he says "What" when he exits the room (broom closet) that the men are being flogged in and the receptionist tells him his uncle is there to see him. This scene always stands out in my mind. His delivery is that of absolute confusion and shock.

I was blessed to meet Anthony Perkins and shake his hand in the summer of 1990.I was 13 years old. He was filming a Psycho sequel(4) at Universal Orlando, and our backlot tour happened to visit the set he was working on. He was a very nice and polite man. I cherish this memory. Sadly he died 2 years later.

Welles himself thought this whole film was a dark comedy.

Viewing "The Truman Show" as Kafkaesque certainly adds to its appeal, as it does a great many of Jim Carrey's more conventional films.
