I've never seen any Pink Panther movies, but hope to catch one on cable sometime. My question: Are these movies related in any way to the Pink Panther cartoon? If so, how? And if so, did the cartoon come first or the movie (chicken or egg question)?

I never watched the cartoon much and have never seen the movies, but I've always wondered about this.

I don't know which came first.

The cartoons feature Inspector Clouseau (spelling?). They also feature the Pink Panther, who was not an actual character in the movies. Instead, the Pink Panther is the worlds largest (fictional) diamond, and has a flaw that that resembles a pink panther when viewed at a certain angle.

I'm pretty sure the cartoon came first.

No, the cartoon came after this. The cartoon character, which was used in the title credits, became so popular that they made a regular cartoon out of it.
