ok i watched both the pink panther and a shot in the dark. but which is the first because on imdb the pink panther is the first but at the end of it, inspector cluseau goes to jail. and at the start of a shot in the dark it doesn't show him in jail or anything and it sort of introduces him.
i'm not sure, but does anyone know?

Clouseau is married in the first movie (The Pink Panther) and is not in "A Shot in the Dark."
I also heard that A Shot in the Dark was filmed first, but then why do they call him Clouseau? Not only was Clouseau NOT in the stage play, but wasn't the character originally created for Peter Ustinov? I'm confused. Someone help me.

The movie following The Pink Panther doesn't show how he get's out of jail because it's another movie in the franchise, not a continuation. You're confusing movies and their sequels with serialized soap operas!
