song in the bar
Does anyone know the title of the song sung by the female singer in the bar, the one that ends up with them all doing a version of the conga!

shareMeglio Stasera sung by Fran Jeffries
shareGreat song. Always wanted to play it in a band in a club. Never did.
Thanx a million. That has been driving me nutso for years. NOBODY could have done a better job than Fran. Beautiful and sexual.
sharepersonally, while i thought it was a fine enough song, i have always hated the fact that it seems the rest of the storyline has to come to a complete grinding hault just so we can watch her sing the song... it worked fine as an instrumental for background music, but it wasn't THAT special, IMO...
however, i must say that i thought Fran's "Shadows of Paris" sung over the opening sequence of A Shot in the Dark was superb, and i am forever bitter that they never released the film version of that song as a single!

I think it would have been better to have an Italian sing it. It's annoying the way she sings 'Doe-mar-nee' Or they could have got an Italian in to correct her pronounciation!

Agreed. I love the little musical interlude. I still find it a bit random but have no problem with it, I think it actually livens things up a bit to be honest!
I have wondered if the film used to stop for intermission (as many theatres used to once upon a time) in the scene prior to this and this little musical moment was the scene that restarted the film again when audiences came back into the theatre to get them back into the mood of the film. Just a thought.
the interlude idea is not one that had crossed my mind before, but now you've got me curious... on the one hand, that sounds interesting, and on the other, i just don't know...
but i've got to disagree with the above statements that the film was too slow and needed livening up! i suppose critics at the time didn't care for it much, either (many claimed that the animated titles were the only bit worth seeing!), but i personally found the story to be both interesting and funny, and the only part that seems a bit slow to me is the scene where the princess goes to Sir Charles' hotel room... besides that singular scene, it's all very well done, IMO...
