question (spoilers)

In the scene where Clouseau's wife goes to talk to Princess Dala, what was her proposition in exchange of making her husband a scapegoat ?
I lost this scene.

I think that Madame Clouseau didn't love her hubby and just wanted to get rid of him somehow. She was probably more in love with Sir Charles than with that bumbling hubby of hers.

I think since the Princess had the diamond all the time, she felt bad for Sir Charles Lytton and having him go to jail for stealing a diamond he did not steal. It was expediant for them to put the onus on Inspector Clouseau, which could be quickly erased when the Phantom struck again.
